Purpose of DSP

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

Why I Joined America's Foremost Professional Business Fraternity

I joined Delta Sigma Pi for their close nit circle. Everyone in DSP treats each other like family. Not only is DSP a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop professionally but it also presents a unique opportunity to be apart of  a family and team. The amount of camaraderie and diversity in DSP is outstanding. If you need help you can automatically count on one of your DSP brothers to help you out. It goes both ways as well. If one of your DSP brothers turns to you for help they can automatically count on you for support. It is a beautiful thing.

My Experience

I went through the selective process that Delta Sigma Pi has in order to become an active member in the fall of my junior year of college. I was 1 of 34 people chosen out of 120+ applicants. After being selected I went through DSP's semester long professional and fraternal development program were I began networking and making life long friends in DSP.

After being initiated into this selective fraternity I began immediately getting involved. I joined the pledge committee who's soul function it was to select, train, and develop the next DSP class both professionally and personally. Training for new members were held each week and covered professional attire, resume building, team building activities, and fraternity history tests. I held that position for 2 semesters and trained 60 new initiates to be well rounded and active members within the organization.

While being an active member in DSP I got the opportunity to be active in their numerous philanthropic endeavors.

  • In DSP we were apart of Adopt a Highway where we made sure the streets of Columbia, MO were clean

  • We frequently volunteered at the Humane Society where we helped out with all the grooming, feeding, and cleaning of the cages (we also played with a LOT of puppies and kittens!)

  • I made meals for the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia, MO

  • Each semester DSP had fundraising events for local charities. I took part in these fundraising efforts and was able to raise $3500 over the course of 2 semesters for charity.

In the college of business at the University of Missouri there is a week long competition called "B WEEK". This is a week of competitions between business fraternities. It is an opportunity for the members of each business fraternity to attend professional development seminars, a talent show, and numerous team activities. I participated in all the professional seminars. However, what I am most proud of is my contributions to the DSP Bubble Soccer team where my brothers and I took 1st place in the bubble soccer tournament which helped DSP overall WIN B WEEK!

While I was an active member in DSP I made life long friends and great connections in the business world. DSP opened up many fantastic opportunities for me to get involved on and off campus to make a difference in the lives of others.
